In the spring of 2007, Jack , a German Shepherd was diagnosed with something called DM. The easiest way to describe this disease is by saying it is doggie MS. My vet suggested that I stay away from all things unnatural and try to stick with items that were organic and free from preservatives… Jack began responding to his new food and treats and Snack Like Jack was born.
They say there is always one special dog in a person’s life; for me, that is Jack. He came to live with us at a time while I was married. My husband began searching for a dog to take to the Police Academy and a 10month old german shepard returned home with him one day.
Unfortunately, Jack suffered from a condition called bloat and thereafter we would always be careful about feeding him. This coupled with his MS gave me the perfect opportunity to spoil him with homemade goodies. He at one time needed a cart , but between good exercise, a regiment of swimming at a local therapy place and a good natural healthy diet, I am happy to say Jack is in most likely in the best shape of his life even though the years have grayed his little muzzle. Jack no longer needs his cart except for when we go out for extended walks.
Just recently, we have had a new addition to our canine family - Jerry Lee. Click here to read the Stamford News article on his adoption.
I would like to send out a huge thank you to Dr. Clemmons at the University of Florida who has dedicated his research to finding a cure for doggie ms.
AND
Thank you to Dr. Wayland for all her help and expertise over the years to ensure Jack's good health.
AND
A very special thank you to Dr. Arnold Carey, for being there the day that Jack suffered from bloat and was rushed by the police to his office in Bethany, CT. At the time, we had no idea what bloat was...if it wasn't for his skill as a vet, Jack would never have been able to give me all the years of joy that he has. God Bless You
